The primary purpose of this blog is to clarify words you might encounter in your personal journey studying the (KJV) King James Version of the Holy Bible.
Why the King James Version? As an answer to religious persecution, the KJV Holy Bible was commissioned c.a. 1604 by the King of England and was first published in 1611. The King brought the finest scholars from the greatest universities of their time together and let them choose the content and the order of the presentation. At the time over 5,000 of the best existing documents and extremely fragile remnants were considered and only when they were fully agreed upon by the prestigious group were they allowed to be included.
Their goal was to create a complete English language version which represented what God's words had inspired since the beginning of time. While their word choices seem odd to us in the 2,000+ time period, the version they created is representative of the finest examples of the language available to them. The Holy Bible went on to be a driving force behind another important historical development, the invention of the printing press. Very quickly, printing KJV Bibles became a very big business and still is today.
Ever since the second century and with increased vigor since the early 1800's many humans with less than pure motives have attempted to subvert the word of God for their own purposes. In some church denominations, use of the Bible has been supplanted by alternate books and materials, which detail rituals and procedures not found in the KJV. Many modern scholars have changed the text, reduced the role of Jesus to less than Deity, and in general bent the meaning to something less than what was originally there.
God cautioned against changing his inspired words and his son will be judging those who conspire to do so for sinful and selfish motives. Under the guise of adding clarity, the wording in many translations has been changed and along with it the real meaning has also been changed as the language used was manipulated to make it more "readable" or "understandable" to modern consumers.
This blog list of unfamiliar words and definitions was culled from years of studying a collection of Bibles and Canonical reference materials. No matter which version of the Bible you are using, it is my hope that the list of words and definitions on this blog can help unlock and inspire your own journey with Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior.
